THE RONNIE LIPPIN CANCER OUTREACH PROGRAM AT TOWER CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION was established to provide the public with more information about cancer and how to deal with significant issues relating to the disease. Ms. Ronnie Lippin, a prominent, well-respected publicist and manager in the music industry and president of The Lippin Group, an international media and public relations firm, passed away in December 2006 from a rare form of breast cancer. Tower Cancer Research Foundation is dedicated to finding more effective treatments to prevent, treat, and, one day, cure cancer and to providing support and education to patients and their families. This first initiative is an initial step in understanding the public’s attitudes and understanding of cancer and cancer related issues in an attempt to provide better information, patient care and increased awareness for the public.
“We are very excited to share the results of the second Ronnie Lippin Cancer Outreach Program survey. This survey provides very important information that helps us understand peoples' reactions to a potential cancer diagnosis. From this, we can begin to address issues and concerns among the public as part of TCRF’s overall mission to provide better care and information to the community. We are proud of our relationship with Dick and Alexandra Lippin and the Dohring Company for making this venture possible,” said Dr. Solomon Hamburg, president of TCRF.
Among the more exciting findings of this survey are the following:
- Of a study of cancer survivors, more than 50% had symptoms for two months or longer before seeking medical care.
- Over 80% of those delaying medical evaluation did so out of fear or procrastination.
- Once a doctor became involved, a cancer diagnosis was established quickly.
