Robert Decker, MD

Dr. Robert W. Decker has distinguished himself throughout his career. He attended UCLA for undergraduate training, where he subsequently obtained a masters degree in molecular biology . Medical school followed at the University of California at Davis, where he graduated with high honors. He then returned to Los Angeles for internship and residency training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and eventually became Chief Resident in the Department of Medicine. Fellowship training was completed at the UCLA Medical Center in the division of Hematology and Oncology, where he developed a special interest in bone marrow transplantation and the treatment of leukemia. Transplantation was a relatively new procedure at that time, and Dr. Decker was involved in many of the important clinical trials and procedural refinements, which set the stage for transplantation as we know it today.

When he entered private practice in 1987 as a member of the medical group, which eventually became Tower Hematology Oncology Medical Group, he utilized his academic training to become a co-founder of the Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplantation Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In addition to this activity, he became a very active member of the hospital staff, holding several important positions and committee chairmanships, and participating actively in the training of medical residents. Furthermore, he has been an author of a number of scientific publications, dealing mainly with leukemia, Hodgkin's Disease and breast cancer.

In addition to his clinical appointments, Dr. Decker maintains several professional affiliations. He is an active member of:

- American Society of Clinical Oncology
- American College of Physicians
- Southern California Academy of Clinical Oncology

Even as his practice expanded, and despite his many hospital commitments, he has reserved time for a very active family life. He is happily married, has three sons, and somehow has been able to reserve time to coach Little League baseball, root for his boys on the athletic field, play golf, and indulge his hobby of collecting baseball memorabilia.

Those who know Dr. Decker personally will attest to his warmth, good humor, and dedication to his profession.
